Answers
UNIFICATION OF ITALY :
Italy was ruled by many dynasties before it's unification. Italy was divided into 7 states. The major one was Sardinia - piedmont which was under the princely rule. The remaining states were ruled by Pope, Bourbon kings, Austrian Habsburgs etc.
Italy had many languages which were one of the obstacles for unifying the people of Italy.
However, in the 1830s Giuseppe Mazzini tried to unify Italy. For this, he founded a secret club called "Young Italy". But this plan has failed.
The only way that, Italy can be unified was through war. Victor Emmanuel II, King of Sardinia - Piedmont made a diplomatic alliance with the prime minister Cavour. First, Emmanuel II defeated the Austrian forces in 1859. Red Shirts, a troop led by Guiseppe Garibaldi drove out the Spanish rulers. Finally, when France withdrew its troops from Rome in Franco - Prussian war, Victor Emmanuel II occupied the region and completed the unification of Italy.
In 1871, Victor Emmanuel II became the king of United Italy.
In this way Italy was Unified.
