Then the cost of couriering the books weighing w kg is (3.25 × w) zeds.

Also 5 zeds is the fixed pick-up service charge.

If C be the total cost, then we can form the following relation:

C = 5 + 3.25 × w

Option (b) C = 5 + 3.25 × w

Given: Shyleja paid 57 zeds. Then C = 57

Solution:

Putting the value in the above relation, we get

57 = 5 + 3.25 × w

or, w = (57 - 5) / 3.25

or, w = 16

So the weight of her parcel was 16 kg.

Let Cherian's parcel weighs x kg. Then Iqbal's parcel wighs (x + 4) kg.

Let C1, C2 be the cost of the parcels of Cherian and Iqbal respectively.

Then using the relation above, we write

C1 = 5 + 3.25x .....(1)

C2 = 5 + 3.25 (x + 4)

= 5 + 3.25x + 13

= C1 + 13

So, C2 = C1 + 13

Thus Iqbal pays 13 zeds more than Cherian.
