UNIT 6 - PHOTOSYNTHESIS

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants, some bacteria and some protistans use the energy from sunlight to produce glucose from carbon dioxide and water. This glucose can be converted into pyruvate which releases adenosine triphosphate (ATP) by cellular respiration.Oxygen is also formed.

The conversion of usable sunlight energy into chemical energy   is associated with the action of the green pigment chlorophyll. The process of photosynthesis is divided into two main parts – The first part is called the light dependent reaction. This reaction happens in the flattened sac like structures within chloroplasts which are actually green in colour, when the light energy is captured and finally stored into a chemical called ATP. The second part of the process happens when the ATP is used to make glucose also known as Calvin cycle.

Q1 the combination of water, sun and CO2 in the chloroplast of a cell of a green plantmakes –
 Fructose
Glucose
Lactose
Comatose

Q2    The light dependent reaction happens in the –
  Thylakoid membrane
  Calvin cycle
  Chloroplast
 G3P

Q3    Encircle Yes or No for each statement –
Photosynthesis an exothermic reaction.  Yes/No
The carbohydrate which is product of Calvin cycle is G3P.  Yes/No

Q4    Why is photosynthesis so important?

Q5   The picture on the right side depicts some circles. If each small circle is one carbon atom, then can you make out the input and the out of the first reaction that corresponds to the entry of CO2 in the reaction? Also the enzyme responsible for the same.

please answer my question I will mark that person as a ble brainlist.......

Answer:

1. The combination of water, sun and CO₂ in the chloroplast of a cell of green plants makes - glucose.

2. The light-dependent reaction happens in the - thylakoid membrane.

3. Photosynthesis is an exothermic reaction - no.

The carbohydrate G3P is the product of the Calvin cycle -  yes.

4. It is a process through which plants are able to produce their own food.

5.  In the Calvin cycle  3 CO₂ combined with 3 RuBP acceptors, make 6 molecules of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (G3P).

The enzyme responsible is rubisco or RuBP carboxylase/oxygenase.

Explanation:

1. Plants require water, sunlight, carbon dioxide to perform Photosynthesis. Through this process, they release oxygen and produces glucose. These sugars are the molecules that contain the energy that every living organism needs to survive.

2. There are two stages in photosynthesis -light-dependent reaction and the Calvin cycle. The light-dependent reaction takes place in a disc-shapes membranous structure inside a chloroplast called Thylakoid membrane. The chlorophyll is abundantly embedded in these membranes.

3. Photosynthesis is an endothermic reaction, as the plants during photosynthesis absorb solar energy.

The carbohydrate product formed during the Calvin cycle is a three-carbon sugar-phosphate molecule, glyceraldehyde -3-phosphate (G3P).

4. Plants cannot eat food, they have to prepare by themselves. This preparation of own food is called Photosynthesis. During photosynthesis, they imbibe solar energy, carbon dioxide and water and release oxygen, carbohydrate and glucose. This glucose provides energy for the plant to survive. Photosynthesis is indeed very important for plants to survive.

5. The entry and exit of the key molecules calvin cycle:

It takes three turns of Calvin cycles to make one G3P, that can exit the Calvin cycle and fo to make glucose.

  • carbon - 3 CO₂ combined with 3 RuBP acceptors, that make 6 molecules of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (G3P).
  • 1 molecule of G3P exits the Calvin cycle and goes to make the glucose.
  • 5 G3P molecules are recycled for regenerating 3RuBP molecules.

The enzyme responsible is rubisco or RuBP carboxylase/oxygenase.

Hence, Photosynthesis is a very important process for the survival of plants as well as animals.
