Air pollution is a long-standing environmental problem. Modern day air pollution is caused by
emissions from many different sources including power generation, road transport, combustion,
domestic heating, solvents, paints, agriculture and industrial processes. The air pollutants with
the most significant environmental impacts are particulate matter (PM- complex mixture of
organic and inorganic compounds), ozone (O3), oxides of nitrogen (NO and NO2), and volatile
organic compounds (ex. Benzene-C6H6, butadienes).
