unit of area is derived unit.why?

Unit of area is derived unit because area is obtained by the product of length and another length, hence it is derived quantity.

because without the areas unit we cant find tell tge it is an area ok for eg if u r going to buy a packet of milk how u will ask the shopclerk u will as givw me litre milk so for all the thing we require a unit to communicate or for our daily routine
