universal indicator is used to determine whether the given substance is acidic or basic in nature.
the bottle of universal indicator contains a chart which shows the pH of the corresponding colours we get.
0-7 is basic nature
7-14 is acidic nature
7 is neutral
when universal indicator is added to HCl it turns reddish indicating it is acidic in nature and pH value more than 7
