Jalal-ud-din muhammad akbar was the greatest ruler of the mughal dynasty and one of the greatest ruler of india. He brought glory to the empire and is called 'akbar the great'. In 1556, akbar defeated hemu, the general of the afghan forces, in thesecond battle of panipat. Akbar was able to crush the power of the afghans. The victory gave akbar a lot of confindence. Akbar had great respect for the rajputs. He realized that with their support he could consolidate his empire. So he offered them his friendship. He tried to gain loyalty of the rajputs in many ways. Akbar defeated the rajputs but did not humilate them. He treated them very honourably. He allowed most rajput king to continue ruling over their territories. He dis not interfere in their internal matters. Akbar married into rajput families. He parried a rajput princess called jodha bhai. His sons also took rajput princess as their wives. The rajput ladies were given complete religious freedom. Akbar gave high posts to rajput chiefs in his administration, raja man singhand raja birbal, two of his most trusted officials. Not all rukwrs however accepted akbars friendship.
