Answer:

Amanda compares herself with the fairy tale princess Rapunzel in the poem. In the fairy tale, Rapunzel used to let her long hair down the tower to help her witch(whom she considered her mother) to get up.

In the poem, Amanda does not want to let down her hair to help her mother or anybody else to come and break her peace of mind. She does not want the elders to come into her tower and give instructions to her about what to do and what not to do. Thus, she wants no intrusion into her tranquil life.

(Please note that she isn't calling her parent a witch but just comparing their authoritative personality of the parent to the witch's authoritative personality)

Hope this helps you:)
