The 20th century saw a sudden spurt in scientific innovations and growth in technology. Both public and private sector R&D establishments contributed to this growth. While there were no official regulatory bodies to control or moderate this unprecedented development, it led to a burgeoning of technologies, both wanted and unwanted. Some were detrimental to mankind while others had far reaching,  positive effect. In the field of medicine several new generation drugs came up. But at the same time with uncontrolled use, the danger of drug resistance took roots.
