Allahabad is an important town. The two great rivers Ganga and Yamuna meet here. Such a meeting of two rivers is called Sangam. In ancient times, Rishis made their Ashrams at this place. The ancient name of Allahabad is Prayag. Emperor Akbar named it Allahabad i.e. ‘Abode of Allah’. He also built a very large fort on the right bank of the Yamuna.; During the British rule, a university was founded here. Many scholars have come out from Allahabad University. It is called the ‘Oxford of the East’. Allahabad has given more than one Prime Minister to India. The High Court of Allahabad is also very important. It is one of the biggest High Courts of Asia.; The guavas of Allahabad are very sweet and famous.
