1) Although his parents were a little tough, he still loved them. And as he realised he's been separated from his parents he probably felt very insecure. That's why until he was lost he was interested in all the happenings around him but when he misses his parents he is inconsolable and loses interest in everything.

2) The guru asked his disciple not to stay in the kingdom of fools because everything there costed only one dudu and the people were sleeping during daytime and working at night which was very unusual, and things may turn problematic for them in future. So its better to leave the Kingdom. But the disciple refused to leave because he was very greedy. He wanted to stay there and eat because everything was so cheap.
