yes, untouchability is not only a crime it is inhuman too..

Bama got to see many things relating to untouchability. She itself was from a lower caste and experienced many things which made her felt submissive to others. 

She was not likeable in her class. She asked her Brother all about this uncivilized system, her brother advised her to study hard so that others will come automatically to her. She took her brother's words and studied really hard. 

She became 1st in her class, one of the brightest student. Many of the other kids even from really good profile started being friends with her.

Bama studied real hard and learned new things, and fought as a rebellion against the injustice of untouchability.
