The technique of DNA fingerprinting was developed by Dr. Alec Jeffreys.

The method for DNA fingerprinting is as follows :

a. First of all, Isolation of DNA takes place.

b. Restriction endonucleases then cuts them at specific sites.

c. They are subjected to electrophoresis were the DNA fragments are separated.

d. These are then put into nitrocellulose.

e. Hybridisation is done and then is detected by autoradiography.

DNA fingerprinting is very much useful in forensic science. It helps us to find criminals and also helps in paternity testing if any dispute happens.
