Answer:-

Let the marked price be "M" and selling price be "S" when he sells at the discount of 15%.

According to the question,

M \times  \frac{(100 - 15)}{100}  = S \\  \\  \frac{85M}{100}  = S \\  \\  S =  \frac{17M}{20}   \:  - equation \: (1)

When he sells at a discount of 10% he would earn Rs. 1200 more.

Hence,

M \times  \frac{(100 - 10)}{100}  = S + 1200 \\  \\

Substitute "S" value here,

 \frac{9M}{10}  =  \frac{17M}{20}  + 1200 \\  \\  \frac{9M}{10}  -  \frac{17M}{20}  = 1200 \\  \\  \frac{18M - 17M}{20}  = 1200 \\  \\ M = 2400

Now,

Substitute "M" value in equation (1)

s =  \frac{17M}{20}  \\  \\ S =  \frac{17(2400)}{20}  \\  \\ S = 2040

Hence,

Selling price at a discount of 5% is,

2040 \times  \frac{(100 - 5)}{100}  = 2040 \times  \frac{95}{100}  \\  \\  = 1938

Hence, the selling price at a discount of 5% is Rs.1938.
