Lithosphere consists of the whole crust and the upper part of the mantle. In rheological subdivision of earth's layer the uppermost layer is lithosphere but in compositional subdivision it is crust. The crust is subdivided in to two parts , the upper part is called SIAL (silicon+aluminium) and the lower part is known as SIMA (silicon+magnesium).
