equilateral triangle

so we have all sides measuring 2a

also all the angles 60°

refer attachment for labelling of vertices and angles

so now we draw perpendicular to BC from vertice A which bisects BC at 90°

which is also height of our triangle

to find AD we use Pythagoras theorem

(AB)^2= (AD)^2+(BD)^2

(2a)^2=x^2+(a)^2

x^2 = 4a^2-a^2

x^2 = 3a^2

x= √3 a

so height of our triangle is √3 a
