In the figure , the side  length of the square = 6 units

And the also the sector of the circle lies inside the square.

To find the area of the shaded portion.

So, the area of the shaded portion= ( area of the square - area of the sector)

The area of the square = ( side)²

                                      = (6)²

                                       = 36 units

And the area of the sector = ( θ°/360°) ×πr²

                                            = ( 90°/360°) ×(22/7)×(6)²

                                            = (1/4)×(22/7)×(36)

                                            = 28.3 units²

So, the area of the shaded portion = ( 36 - 28.3 ) units²

                                                         = 7.7 units²
