Answer:

let the speed of boat be xkm/hr

and still water be y km/hr

in case of upstream we do. b (x-y) as boat have to travel opposite direction

and (x+y) in downstream

so now according to question

3/(x-y) +4/ (x+y)=118, eq-1 {(/) means divide}

5/(x+y)+2/(x-y)=130

now let suppose 1/x-y=u and 1/x+y=v

so we can write eq-1 and 2 in following form

3u+4v=118eq-3

2u+5v=130 eq-4

now multiply eq-3 by 2 and eq-4 by 3 and then subtract eq-2 by eq-1

6u+8v=236

6u+15v=390

-7v=-154

v=22

now put value of v in eq3

3u+88=118

3u=30

u = 10

now

we have suppose 1/x-y=u

and 1/x+y= v

now put value for v and u and easily make equation in the form of x & y and simply add the equation you will get the value of x and later y...
