seminiferous tubules. coiled tubules in which SPERMATOGENESIS takes place in the testes of male vertebrates. They are made up of germinal epitheliumand hundreds are present in each testis. The germ epithelium proliferates, forms spermatogonia andgrows into spermatocytes which give rise to spermatids by GAMETOGENESIS.
