1) the historical novels, written about the Marathas and rajputs ,produces a sence of pan Indian belonging.

2) they imagined the nation to be full of adventure, heroism, romance, and sacrifice-qualities that could not be found in the offices and streets of the 19th century world.

3) the story of Shivaji , who fought the mighty Aurangzeb presented an example of courage and tanacity. He was imagined as a nationalist fighting for the freedom of Hindus
