Rani saw the dress in shop.
(I think the is suitable article for this is the because the is definite article and it is used to show specific nouns while a and an are indefinite article which is used to show non specific nouns.)
For example- if i say "Let's read the book."
here i mean specific book.
but if I say "Let's read a book."
here i mean any book not a particular book.

In your question also rani saw ___ dress in the shop.
● Here also there are many dresses in the shop(not only one dress) but rani saw the particular dress.
