The role of news media is very important in shaping public awareness about global climate change and associated actions. When we discuss about role of media, we focus on three key issues. to inform, to educate and to entertain. BBC says, Our mission. To enrich people's lives with programmes and services that inform, educate and entertain. ‘To inform, educate, and entertain.’ Thus John Reith defined the task of the BBC. Ofcom’s defines public service broadcasting by four purposes and some characteristics. Its purposes are summarised as Informing our understanding of the world and Stimulating knowledge and learning etc.

The media has to play an instrumental role in modern societies. Regarding environmental policy, media have a key role to play, especially in promoting environmental awareness and education. In fact, the various media, such as newspapers, radio, TV and the internet, have a two-pronged role. On the one hand, they help to explain the environmental policies, regulations and plans to the public and on the other they reflect the concerns of the public regarding different environmental problems and thus pressure the decision makers to solve a specific environmental issue.
