Use the Associative Property of Addition to find the total of 1, 10, and 18 in two different ways.
Question 3 options:
1 + 10 + 18 = 11 + 18 = 29; 10 + 18 + 1 = 28 + 1 = 29
(1 + 10) + 18 = 11 + 18 = 29; (10 + 1) + 18 = 11 + 18 = 29
1 + 10 + 18 = 11 + 18 = 29; 18 + 10 + 1 = 28 + 1 = 29
(1 + 10) + 18 = 11 + 18 = 29; 1 + (10 + 18) = 1 + 28 = 29

In associative property of addition, no matter where the location of your grouping is, the sum is still the same. We first group 1 and 10.
1 + 10 + 18 = (1 + 10) + 18 = 11 + 18 = 29
No we transfer grouping. We group 10 and 18.
1 + 10 + 18 = 1 + (10 + 18) = 1 + 28 = 29
Remember to work out first the terms inside the parenthesis
1 + 10 + 18 = (1 + 10) + 18 = 11 + 18 = 29
