Cr2+ or Fe2+ and why?

Answer:

Cr2+ is a better reducing agent. As it attains a d3 configuration on loosing an electron while Fe2+ attains d5 configuration.

NOTE: In an aqueous medium d3 (half filled t2g orbital) is more stable than d5.

Mn2+ is the most stable form as it has half filled degenerate orbital.

Fe2+ has greater stability than Cr2+ through exchange energy.
