Now, 999 × 9999

= (999 × 10000) - (999 × 1) ,

= {(1000 - 1) × 10000} - 999 ,

since 999 = 1000 - 1

= (1000 × 10000) - (1 × 10000) - 999 ,

using distributive law

= 10000000 - 10000 - 999
