Answer:

You must have left out a fraction.  What you have given adds up to a total of 3 1/2, not 4.

2/3 + 1/3 = 1

1/6 + 5/6 = 1

1            = 1

1/2

With these fractions, it is impossible to solve the problem.

Given : fractions 2/3, 1/3, 1/6, 5/6, 1/2 and the whole number 1

Use each number exactly once.

To Find :  fill in the spaces so that each side of the triangle will have the same sum.

Solution:

           A

      B        C

    D     E    F

A + B + D  =  A + C + F  = D +  E  + F  = k

from these

B + D = C + F

A + C = D + E

A + B  = E + F

2/3  1/3  1/6  5/6   1/2   1

4/6   2/6   1/6   5/6   3/6   6/6

To Simplify Lets take  A , B , C , D , E and F as

1 to 6

A + B  = E + F

A = 1 , B = 6   , E = 2  and F = 5

A + C = D + E

=> 1 + C = D + 2

=> C = D + 1

D = 3  C  = 4

           1

    6           4

3        2         5

Sum of each side = 10

         1/6

  1                4/6

3/6     2/6      5/6

on Simplifying

         1/6

    1             2/2

1/2     1/3      5/6
