A chef is a trained professional cook with many responsibilities. He has many duties like assigning and supervising work to the other employees and trainees in the kitchen. Preparing many types of meals for customers and VIP's, discovering new tastes of customer's liking and creating new recipes, instructing the staff members and the trainees about the right way to deal with customers, training them. A true chef loves the kitchen to be tidy, neat and organised. He sets the whole kitchen, the utensils and the equipment and manages stocks too. He checks the availability of commodities that are needed daily.
For becoming a chef the person must be qualified with a diploma or a degree in culinary arts. The person can also go with hotel management courses to be a chef too as it takes into account the underlying principles required in the profession. There is a lot of knowledge needed to become a chef like knowledge of different cuisines from different continents ( continental cuisines) , cooking techniques. Some more important things required for chef to know is knowledge of ingredients of different dishes and check the health and hygiene regulations on regular basis.
The chef's uniform is different from other cooks in the kitchen. He wears a long hat that goes wide at the top, a bow-tie around his neck, a white double breasted coat, trousers and pants for professional look.
A person who gets in the profession of being a chef gets star celebrity status and a handsome salary for his job.
