The Particle theory of matter states that the particle making the object is continuously in motion.

As heat is provided the kinetic energy or motion of the particles increases.

Hence the body becomes energetic and expands due to decrease in density.

This way when it reaches a particular temperature,the change of state of the body occurs.

When heat is absorbed from the body the kinetic energy of the body decreases.

Hence the body contracts due to increase in density.

When a body reaches its freezing point it changes state.

This explains the change of state.
