R.H. Whittaker introduced the famous five- kingdom classification system which is the most followed classification system in modern time. It includes the following five kingdoms:-
- Monera,
- Protista
- Fungi
- Plantae,
- Animalia
- Monera- Archaea and bacteria, all prokaryotic microbes
- Protista- Eukaryotic microbes and protozoa
- Fungi- Fungi
- Plantae
-Algae, Bryophyta, Pteridophyta, Gymnosperms, Angiosperms
- Animalia
