R.H. Whittaker introduced the famous five- kingdom classification system which is the most followed classification system in modern time. It includes the following five kingdoms:-

  • Monera,
  • Protista
  • Fungi
  • Plantae,
  • Animalia

  • Monera- Archaea and bacteria, all prokaryotic microbes
  • Protista- Eukaryotic microbes and protozoa
  • Fungi- Fungi
  • Plantae

-Algae, Bryophyta, Pteridophyta, Gymnosperms, Angiosperms

  • Animalia
