Moore’s freeway analogy is in fact more apt than he knew.In 2011, John Gass, a Massachusetts resident with a stellar driving record, received an automated notice informing him that his license had been revoked, effective immediately. It turned out that the commonwealth’s motor vehicle agency used a facial-recognition program to scan its database in search of “fraudulent” licenses. In a perfect mishap, the algorithm powering this system decided that his photo was fraudulent (it wasn’t) and triggered another program that revoked his license. Ultimately, Gass hired a lawyer and sued the state. What he really needed was a data scientist, for he was the victim of a bad algorithm

Answer:

Uses- Big Data helps the organizations to create new growth opportunities and entirely new categories of companies that can combine and analyze industry data. These companies have ample information about the products and services, buyers and suppliers, consumer preferences that can be captured and analyzed.

Misuse- Data misuse is the inappropriate use of data as defined when the data was initially collected. Misuse of information typically can be governed by laws and corporate cybersecurity policy. However, even with laws and policies in place, the potential for data misuse is growing.
