HCL breaks down proteins in your stomach to prepare them for digestion and kills bacteria that enter your stomach. It converts the inactive enzyme pepsinogen into the active enzyme pepsin, which is responsible for digesting proteins in your stomach. HCL also helps digest other foods in your stomach.

hope it helps you!

the two major uses of hcl in stomach is:-

1:- it facilitate the action of pepsin. the protein digesting enzyme works in the presence of acidic medium .thus hcl provides acidic medium to enhances the speed of pepsin

2:- it kills the pathogen {disease causing microbes} which enters in our body by the passage with food
