The most widely used non metal in my opinion is oxygen which is used in :

1.combustion

2.rockets as fuel

3.in fuel cells together with hydrogen for production of electricity

4.in respiration

5.in welding

Carbon has various allotropes like amorphous carbon, diamond and graphite just to mention a few.

1.Amorphous carbon is mainly use as a fuel e.g coal

2.diamond is very hard but not the hardest substance( there is a Material Harder Than Diamond Created) is used in making drilling bits and jewelry.

3.graphite is used in pencils and making electrodes because it is not very reactive and can conduct electricity.
