Sulphuric acid is also used as an important dehydrating agent owing to its property of predomination of water. It is used in manufacture of industrial grade hydrogen by sulphur-iodine cycle where it is first broken down into sulphur dioxide and water and then reacted with iodine to release hydrogen gas.

Owing to its wide range of uses, sulphuric acid is an important chemical for industrial uses and an indicator of industrial production.

The major use of sulfuric acid is in the production of fertilizers, e.g., superphosphate of lime and ammonium sulfate. It is widely used in the manufacture of chemicals, e.g., in making hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sulfate salts, synthetic detergents, dyes and pigments, explosives, and drugs.
