Synthetic fibres
Synthetic fibres (man-made fibres) are produced by joining chemical monomers into polymers using a chemical reaction called polymerisation.
Uses of synthetic fibres
- Nylon: It is used to makes stocking , seat belts ropes , tents , toothbrushes, sleeping bags, curtains and parachutes etc.
- Rayon: It is used as dress materials mixed withcotton. It is used to makes curtains, bedsheets etc. ismixed with wool to makes a beautiful carpet
- Polyester: PET is also derived from polyester which in terms is used to makes containers, utensils feeling wires etc.
- Acrylic : It is used to makes sweaters and suit length . It is cheaper than natural wool
Plastic
An optical Fiber having a plastic Core and plastic cladding. Plastic fiber is an inexpensive type of fiber and generally lower quality than Glass optical fiber. Attenuation is generally higher with plastic fiber.
Uses of plastic Fibre
- Fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) are composites used in almost every type of advanced fields
- engineering structure, with their usage ranging from aircraft, helicopters and spacecraft through to boats, ships and offshore platforms and to automobiles, sports goods, chemical processing equipment and civil infrastructure
