The amount of hydrostatic pressure that can stop water from diffusing into cytoplasmic fluid or other hypertonic solutions is called Osmotic pressure. This is important because it is what keeps the plant upright and rigid. keeps the plant upright and stiff. Loss of turgor pressure (from dehydration) causes wilting.
