They are very different materials but sometimes they can have the same purpose.
Silk: Silk is a natural, protein filament produced by silk worm. Fabrics made from silk are soft, fine, smooth, lustrous, warm and stronger than wool. It is called 'Queen of the Fibres' and is used for formal wear.
Wool can be woven into cloth and you can make/sew clothes with it such as a coat or a skirt, or you knit/crochet with it once spun into yarn and make hats gloves scarves or knit garments.
Silk is a much lighter thread and can also be woven and often nightwear or wedding dresses or suits are made from the material made.

we use silk for making dresses , making gowns, making parachutes.
The wool it is mostly used in making garments because About 80 percent of wool is only used for making garments. so the example it is use for making hats, gloves, blankets etc.
