Usha swims in a 90 m long pool. She covers 180 m in one minute, swimming from one end to the other and back along the same straight path. i Find the average speed and average velocity of Usha ii. Do you find a difference in their magnitudes? If so, explain what is the difference and why? iii. Write the differences between speed and velocity.

Answer:

Distance = 180 m

time = 1 min = 60 seconds

average speed = total distance covered / total time taken

= 180 m / 60 sec

= 3 m/s

Displacement = 0/s ( as usha come back along the same path so, the intial and final decision is same )

average velocity = displacement /time

= 0m/ 60s

= 0m/s
