Given :   8² - 7²  = 15

To Find :   draw a square of area 15 sq cm.

Solution:

Step 1 :  Draw  a line  segment AB  =  7 cm

Step 2 : Draw a right angle at B on AB using protractor

Step 3 : Using compass width = 8  cm and taking A as center intersect the angle drawn at C

BC² = AC² - AB²  ( Pythagoras theorem )

=> BC² = 8² - 7²

=> BC² =  15

Step 4 : Extend AB

Step 5 : using compass width   = BC  and taking B as center intersect extended AB at  E

Step 6 : Keeping compass width same draw  arcs taking C & E as center which intersects at D

Step 7 : Join CD  & DE

BCDE is the Square of area 15 sq cm.
