For this experiment

The apparatus required:

1. Beaker 2. Powdered soap 3. A laser

Aim:

To study the refraction when light passes from one medium to the other

Procedure:

1. Take a hundred ml beaker and fill in the tap water

2. Now add the Powdered soap and mix well with the water to make a soap solution

3. Now take the laser and hold it such that the laser is in the front of the beaker

4. Now pass the light from the laser. When the Ray of light enters the bigger the light bends towards the normal

Observation and reason:

When the light from the laser passes into the beaker, the light bends towards the normal

This phenomenon occurs since the light enters from the rarer medium into the denser medium . This phenomenon is called refraction

Refraction of light is the phenomenon

by which a single monochromatic source of light emits a ray which is deviated

by another medium when it passes through it. This is easily seen when we look

through the side of a glass at a pencil on the other side.
