x+6 will be a factor as x^2-x-42= (x+6)(x-7),
and in the second part 2y-5 cannot be the factor as the equation is in x ............ is it would have been in y then 4y^2-13y-12= (4y-3)(y-4).... so therefore not a factor!!!
