Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

3x + y = 5

x + y = 3

To find :-

Solve the given equations ?

Solution:-

Given equations are :

3x + y = 5 ------(1)

x + y = 3---------(2)

On Subtracting (2) from (1) to eliminate the term 'y'

3x + y = 5

x + y = 3

(-)

________

2x +0 = 2

________

=> 2x = 2

=> x = 2/2

=> x = 1

On Substituting the value of x in (2)

=> 1+y = 3

=> y = 3-1

=> y = 2

x = 1 and y = 2

Answer:-

Solution for the given equations is (1,2)

Check:-

If x = 1 and y = 2 then

3x+y

=> 3(1)+2

=> 3+2

=> 5

and

x+y

=> 1+2

=> 3

LHS = RHS are true for x=1 and y = 2

Used Method:-

  • Elimination method

Steps in the Method:-

  • Choose one variable to eliminate on adding or subtracting one from another .
  • after eliminating one variable we get the value of another variable.
  • On Substituting the value of one variable in the given equations then we get another value of varaible.
  • Those values are the solution for the given equations in two variables.
