Graphical Method:

  • s = Distance

  • a = acceleration

  • u = initial velocity

  • v = final velocity

  • t = time taken

★Dist. travelled by object = Area of trapezium ABDO

s = 1/2 ( sum of parallel sides ) × height

s = 1/2 ( BD + AO ) × OD

BD + AO = v + u and OD = t . Substituting the values in the above relations,we get

s = 1/2 ( v + u ) × t

From first equation of motion: v = u + at

⇒ at = v - u

⇒ t = v - u / t

Now, Putting the value of t ,we get :

s = 1/2 ( v + u ) × ( v - u / a )

2as = v² - u² [ ( v + u ) ( v - u ) = v² - u² ]
