Identity used:

(a+b)²=a²+b²+2ab

(5.1)² can be written as (5+0.1)² and then evaluate using above identity..

Hope this helps...

Answer:

26.1

Step-by-step explanation:

5.1 ^{2}

5 ^{2}  + 0.1 ^{2} + 2(5)(0.1)

25 +  \frac{1}{10}  + 2(5)( \frac{1}{10} )

25  +  \frac{1}{10}  + 1

 \frac{250}{10}  + \frac{1}{10}  +  \frac{10}{10}

 \frac{261}{10}  =  \: 26.1
