Answers
Yes I'll also be using information that I have learned in the lesson as well as evidence from the documents in the assignment.
The reason as to why Great Britain determined to exercise imperialism in the Middle East was that they were opting to actually keep control over the Suez Canal which was a very vital place for them. The canal was mostly providing the shortest route of transport between Great Britain and its colonies in Asia. Therefore they were determined to exercise imperialism.
Great Britain was determined to exercise imperialism in the Middle East because it wanted to retain its control over the Suez Canal, using which it moved men and materials to its Asian colonies.
Without the Suez Canal, it could have been very difficult for it to retain control over these colonies.
Moreover, it had other interests in the Middle East like in Persia, it had access to oil and rich farmlands for growing cotton and tobacco.
It had also invested heavily in Egypt and made a protectorate so that it could sell its goods in the Egyptian market.
