You know, plastic cups are very dangerous. Even though it is paper, it has plastic coating on it, as paper can't hold liquid. And plastic is prone to heat damage. It can melt and chemicals mix with the tea/coffee.

Answer:

  • Using Kulhad disposable cups to serve tea in trains were proved to be a bad idea because of its cost compared to plastic or paper disposable cups.
  • Hence, even though the then Union Railway Minister, Shri. Lalu Prasad Yadav introduced this eco-friendly cup to promote pottery industry; manufacturing of kulhad cups on a large scale to serve in Railways where millions travel daily would require materials like topsoil and fuel.
  • Increased removal of the top fertile soil will lead to soil erosion and infertility. Using more fuel is not economically or ecologically safe.
