because in water there are microbes like algae which feed on phosphates .therefore they use up oxygen and the minerals present in water hence fishes die

Answer: Accumulation of phosphorous in the aquatic system is dangerous for aquatic lives as it results in eutrophication ( excessive growth of plant sand algae over the surface of water) that causes algal blooms. This results in mortality of aquatic lives like fishes and plants because of the shortage of oxygen and sunlight.

Thus, using phosphate free detergent can help in saving fish.
