Given :- using properties of two digit number . find the quotient when 85-58 is divided by :- A - 9 , B - 3 . Or,

Without performing actual subtraction and division, find the quotient when the difference of 85 - 58 is divided by the following : a. 9 , b. 3.

Solution :-

Let us assume that, a two digit number is 10x + y .

now, reversing the number we get, 10y + x .

so,

→ Difference between two digits number after reversing = (10x + y) - (10y + x) = 10x - x + y - 10y = 9x - 9y = 9(x - y)

conclusion :-

  • Difference between a two digits number and reversed of it = 9 * (Difference between both digits)

so, we can conclude that, finding the difference using properties of two digit number,

→ 85 - 58 = 9 * (8 - 5) = 9 * 3 = 27

now,

→ When 27 is divided by 9 = 27 ÷ 9 = Quotient is 3 .

and,

→ When 27 is divided by 3 = 27 ÷ 3 = Quotient is 9 .
