By using substitution method:
27x+31y=85
27x=85-31y
x=85-31y/27

Substituting the value of x in the equation 31x+27y=89
31[(85-31y)/27]+27y=89
(2635-961y+729y)/27=89
2635-232y=2403
-232y=2403-2635
y=1

x=85-31/27
x=2

Hope it helps!!

27x+31y=85
27x=85-31y
x=(85-31y)/27----(1)
Put (1) in 31x+27y=89
31(85-31y)/27 +27y =89
31(85-31y)+27*27y=89*27
2635-961y+729=2403
-961y=2403-2635-729
-961y=-961
y= -(961)/(-961)
y=1
Put y=1 in (1)
x=(85-31*1)/27
x=54/27
x=2
Therefore
x=2, y=1
