there is a problem with question....it should be 1001×999.....ie...

(a+b)(a-b)=(1000+1)(1000-1)

a^2-b^2=(1000^2)-(1^2)

=1000000-1
=99999

or....

(x+a)(x+b)=x^2+(a+b)x+ab
(997+4)(997+2)=994009+(4+2)997+4×2
=994009+5982+8
=998998
