Answer:

DIFFERENCES:

A saturated solution is a solution that contains the maximum amount of solute that is capable of being dissolved whereas an unsaturated solution is a solution that contains less than the maximum amount of solute that is capable of being dissolved.

SIMILARITY:

Both the saturated and unsaturated solution is made out of certain amount of solute and solvent.

SUPERSATURATED AND SATURATED

The following are the similarities of a saturated and supersaturated solution: In both type of solution, (saturated and unsaturated), additional amount of solute is added to the solvent.

Differences between unsaturated, saturated and supersaturated solutions:

  • A saturated solution is one where maximum amount of solute has been dissolved in a solvent. Here, more solute cannot be added by raising temperature.
  • An unsaturated solution is one where less than maximum amount of solute has been dissolved in a solvent. Here, more solute can be added by raising temperature.
  • A supersaturated solution is one where more than the maximum amount of solute has been dissolved in a solvent. It is highly unstable, and has a non equilibrium condition.

Similarities between unsaturated, saturated and supersaturated solutions:

  • All three of them contain a solution of solute in a solvent.
  • The mechanism of dissolution is the same in all three solutions.
